SICK Mel B was being treated in hospital last night for a mystery illness just hours before this weekend’s X Factor final,

The Spice Girl, 39, is "seriously ill" and being kept in overnight for further tests after spending the day being treated on a private ward.

Insiders said there was a "90 per cent chance" she would not be on tomorrow’s X Factor as contestants Andrea Faustini, Fleur East and Ben Haenow head into the final weekend.

A source close to Mel confirmed: "She is in hospital and is seriously ill.

"We are awaiting the result of tests and then we will know exactly what is wrong.

"If I had to predict it, having seen her, I don’t think she will be able to do the show.

"Miracles do happen and the doctors may say she is well enough to leave but, looking at her, I would be amazed if that happens."

X Factor bosses were last night considering bringing a guest judge in to replace her,

A source said: "If she does make it to Wembley this weekend she won’t know what to do as she missed rehearsals.

"On top of that Mel hasn’t spoken to her act Andrea since Tuesday. Mel was very supportive until then but her illness has affected him too."

Last night a spokesman for Mel said: "We’re not making any comment. It’s a private medical matter."

As Andrea, 20, struggled to prepare for the Wembley final without his mentor, he was heard saying: "I feel abandoned."

It is thought if Mel is unable to turn up tonight, judge Cheryl Fernandez Versini could support him.

The source added: "Cheryl will be there for Andrea if she needs to be. She also won’t want the final to flop and wants to make Simon Cowell happy."

The drama is a fresh blow for The X Factor, which has lagged behind BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings.

There had been high hopes for the ITV series, with the return of Simon and Cheryl to the panel alongside Mel and Louis Walsh.

All of Cheryl and Louis’s acts have already been eliminated, with Simon Cowell mentoring Andrea’s fellow finalists Ben and Fleur.

On tomorrow night’s show each contestant will sing three songs: a song of their choice,

Fleur will sing her winner’s single, Something I Need by One Republic, Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and her much praised performance of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk.

Andrea will sing his impressive rendition of Feeling Good by Nina Simone, his winner’s track of I Didn’t Know My Own Strength, by Whitney Houston,

And Ben will perform Demons by Imagine Dragons, Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror. He has chosen the same winner’s song as Fleur Something I Need by One Republic.

All three will sing Rule The World as a group with Take That.

It will be their final chance to impress the audience. But the trio can’t get too competitive as they’ll have to be in sync with each other on stage and with the Take That trio.
