William Byrd Community House is a 90-year old organization that provides a community of services to help individuals and families address immediate challenges and draw on their strengths to build self-sufficiency.

Our clients are among the community’s most vulnerable families – 100% are at or below Federal Poverty Level guidelines. Each struggles with multiple problems that are unique and complex in nature.

When a family can’t meet basic needs—such as food, housing, utilities, and childcare—it indicates they may have bigger problems. Our innovative approach provides an array of services that addresses the realities our clients face. We offer programs and emergency assistance to help them manage immediate needs. Then, we provide case management support to help them build a solution that will last.

Children’s Services

Provides subsidized, low-cost, quality childcare for children, ages 3 – 12, from low-or-no-income families. Among the innovative components: case management services for the family of each child enrolled, and an emphasis on avoiding childhood obesity through healthy eating habits.

The Grace Arents Library and Education Center

Features a library, computers, enrichment classes, the Grace Arents Community Garden, the Byrd House Market and the Byrd House Farmlet.
